GARY, IN (NOVEMBER 20, 2023) â This Thanksgiving, mayor-elect Eddie Melton has teamed up with a church, an urban farm, a healthcare provider, and a community organization to help families in need. As a result, Meltonâs 5th Annual Turkey Giveaway will take place on Tuesday, November 21st from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at RailCats Stadium in Gary, Ind.Â
In partnership with Faith Farms CDC, Geminus, NorthShore Health Centers and Progressive Community Church, Melton is inviting families in need to the stadium to receive turkeys, hams, fresh produce and sides â staples for a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Â
âThis is the time of year for us all to reflect on our many blessings and be intentional in blessing others in need,â said Melton. âItâs an honor to partner with Faith Farms, Geminus, NorthShore and Progressive Community Church on this annual event to give back to our community.â Â
Freida Graves, Director of Faith Farms CDC, has helped plan and organize logistics for the events with an emphasis on engaging and supporting local grocers and food growers. Â
âWe sincerely appreciate mayor-elect Melton for entrusting Faith CDC and Progressive to partner with him on this wonderful blessing,â said Freida Graves, Director of Faith Farms CDC. âKnow that it will be done in a spirit of excellence and Proverbs 11:25. The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.âÂ
This is the fifth year Melton has delivered holiday cheer to the residents of Gary. He plans to continue this tradition as mayor. Â
