Mayor Melton Appoints New Member to GCSC Board
GARY, IN (January 2, 2024) — Gary Mayor Eddie Melton has announced his appointment to the Gary Community School Corporation’s board. The newly appointed individual is Glenn Johnson, a seasoned corporate executive, entrepreneur and former president of Lake Ridge New Tech’s school board.
This appointment, effective immediately, represents the single mayoral appointment established by Senate Enrolled Act 327, which was signed into law by Gov. Eric Holcomb in May.
“It’s my honor to appoint the final body to a diverse group representing community, business, and academics,” said Mayor Eddie Melton. “Glenn Johnson, just as I am, is a product of Gary public schools and he is dedicated and proven effective at developing learning environments that support children in the classroom and beyond.”
The Melton administration is planning to establish strategic priorities to help improve the overall quality of education for every child in Gary.
“I am hopeful that my previous experience on the Lake Ridge School Board will be beneficial to the students of the Gary Community School Corporation,” Johnson said. “I look forward to working with fellow members of the board as well as the emergency manager, DUAB and the Mayor to make Gary community schools as successful as we know it can be.”
Johnson has served the community as a member of the Lake Ridge New Tech School Board for 12 years, with 9 consecutive years as President. He helped lead the district to fiscal compliance, avoiding state takeover.
