GARY, IN — Glenn Robinson III, a native of Gary and veteran NBA player, reconnected with Senator Eddie Melton to distribute turkeys, hams and trimmings to families in need this past Sunday at Ari Foundation’s 4th Annual Turkey Drive at Diamond Center in Gary, Indiana.
Gary residents started lining up hours before the event for an opportunity to receive a free turkey or ham, and to connect with the NBA All-Star and Senator Melton, newly announced candidate for mayor of Gary.
Dozens of volunteers, including the boys basketball team from 21st Century Charter School and the Melton campaign, staffed the event. Volunteers unloaded hundreds of pounds of food; directed traffic in and around the venue; and helped attendees carry their bounty to their car.
The event’s success was made possible by partnerships and support from Faith Farms CDC, ALDI, and Strack & Van Til.
